UNILEVER SCHOOLS ART PROJECT (article first published : 2004-09-27)

Schools in KwaZulu-Natal are invited to enter a visual arts competition sponsored by the Unilever Foundation, using the theme “Connecting and Communicating”. The first prize is a trip to London, England, where the winning work will be exhibited at the world famous Tate Modern Art Gallery.

The Unilever International Schools Art Project 2004 Competition is open to all learners from grade 1 to 12. Finished work can be two dimensional e.g. a painting, drawing or collage; three dimensional e.g. a sculpture or installation; or composed of moving images e.g. video or digital art.

Teachers are encouraged to work with the learners to interpret freely the inspiration evoked by the theme “Connecting and Communicating” surroundings or events relevant to learners can provide sources of motivation.

The second prize is R5,000 and third prize is R3,000. The winning learner will be accompanied to London by a parent or a teacher as guests of Unilever. The objective of the competition is to unearth the views and creativity of the world’s children.

Entry forms are available at the offices of all 12 districts of the KwaZulu Natal Education Department.
