ABUNDANT HERDS AT BONISA (article first published : 2004-09-8)

Nguni Cattle provide the theme of the next exhibition to be hosted by Neil and Liesel Wright of the quaint, thatched Bonisa Private Gallery in Kloof.

The Abundant Herds, the much-applauded exhibition featuring original oil paintings by Leigh Voigt, features some of the paintings and drawings of Nguni cattle, birds, snakes and plants from the recently published book, The Abundant Herds by Marguerite Poland, David Hammond-Tooke and Leigh Voigt.

The exhibition, which also includes a selection of limited edition prints and posters, runs from September 12 to 23 and again from October 4 to 17.

Leigh Voigt is an internationally acclaimed artist, known particularly for her paintings of birds and wildlife. She has illustrated eight books and has exhibited in South Africa, Europe, Canada and the United States where her work is represented in numerous private and public collections.

Her autobiographical account of life in the bushveld, Lulu Phezulu, Leigh Voigt’s African Album, won the prestigious BookData Booksellers’ Award in 2000.

Visitors are welcome by appointment. Bonisa is a comfortable, flexible and relatively new gallery space at 47 Ronalds Rd, Kloof. For directions or information, phone 031 764 0288. Visit the gallery’s website to preview some of the artwork and to register for further gallery news at www.bonisa.co.za
