CREATIVE ARTS YOUTH FESTIVAL (article first published : 2004-07-23)

The Durban Institute of Technology (DIT) Gallery invites young people to submit their entries for the 15th annual National Creative Arts Youth Festival Visual Arts Exhibition. The aim of the competition is to stimulate creativity amongst young people from grade 0 to post-matric throughout South Africa, exhibit their works of art in an Art Gallery, and award cash prizes to encourage the pursuit of artistic endeavours.

The competition for prizes and opportunity to show one's work in the Gallery is open to ALL young people under the age of 21 on January 1, 2004, whether at school, in a tertiary institution and/or working independently. Artworks in any media are accepted, these will be selected by a panel of judges and prizes will be allocated as stipulated in the entry forms.

Entry forms can be collected at the Durban Art Gallery (City Hall), NSA Gallery (Bulwer Road), and at the DIT Gallery (Mansfield Road). Electronic entry forms are also available per request. Also entry forms may be photocopied, but every work must be accompanied by its own entry form.

The closing date for submission of all entries is August 4 and the exhibition of winning entries as well as selected works will open on August 12 at 18h00 at the DIT Gallery, Gate 2, 51 Mansfield Road, Durban. The exhibition runs until August 27.

The DIT Gallery is also physically accessible by wheelchair via the S-Block entrances, and aims to make its exhibition programmes and activities accessible from a seated position. Further information from the professional officer, Reginald Letsatsi at 031 204 2207 or via reginaldl@dit.ac.za
