EXPLORATION OF 10 YEARS (article first published : 2004-07-10)

Moses Buthelezi is among the artists celebrating a decade of South African democracy. His exhibition, Exploration of 10 years is running at the BAT Centre’s Democratic Gallery.

Born more than three decades ago in Kamahi, Moses is a self-taught artist who is inspired by observing things around him. As unique as his work is his style which reveals an artist with a critical eye full of colour and lots of humour.

Greatly influenced by artists like George Phamba, Gerald Bhengu and the late Fikile Magadlela, Moses received a part-time printing course through the African Art Centre at the Durban Institute of Technology and also underwent workshops at the Caversham Press in Howick.

Since his debut exhibition at the Bat Centre in 2000, Moses has had several exhibitions in KwaZulu-Natal.

The exhibition runs until August 3. For more information contact Nontobeko Ntombela on 031 332 0451.
