MULTIPLE PORTFOLIO EXHIBITION (article first published : 2004-04-23)

Women Artists and Poets Advocating Children's Rights is a multiple portfolio exhibition opening at the DIT Art Gallery on April 27 at 17h30, to celebrate Freedom Day.

This exhibition features the Images of Human Rights portfolio now installed at the New Constitutional Court in Gauteng, the sought-after Break the Silence: HIV/Aids portfolio endorsed locally and internationally and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights international prints portfolio. To coincide with the exhibition, the Art for Humanity (AfH) which has changed from Artists for Human Rights will launch its new name, (AfH) as well as announce its growing nature of work.

The exhibition will be opened by Advocate Anil Naidoo who is the executive director of Fahamu SA. Fahamu SA is the first of several offices in the Africa region committed to using the new technologies for strengthening civil society organisations capacity to bring about progressive social change.

Speaking at the opening about the significance of children's rights is Ms Nise Malange, poet and Director of the BAT Centre in Durban.

The exhibits are wheelchair accessible from the S-block entrances and the Art Gallery strives to make most exhibits and activities accessible from a seated position. Free and secured parking is accessible through Gate 2 and 3 on Mansfield Road, Durban. Contact Reginald Letsatsi at 031 204 2207 for more information.
