BLUE CATERPILLAR (article first published : 2003-11-23)

The Blue Caterpillar Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg welcomes new artists to the gallery:

Wade Howard gave up his occupation as a qualified electrician and venturedinto the world of portraiture and weddings to realise his passion for photography, particularly landscape photography. He will exhibit a variety of prints showing the diversity of South Africa’s landscape and peoples.

Claire Granville, who has recently completed her honours in Fine Art at the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, will complete her Master Degree in Los Angeles in 2004. Originally from Mpumalanga, she is inspired by the natural beauty of the farming community where she grew up. She loves imperfection and rich textures are inherent to her unique style. Her work is exhibited and sold in South Africa and several pieces have reached the United Kingdom, United States and Canada.

Rheta-Marie Kotze moved into the challenging world of fine art after working for more than ten years in the advertising industry. Her love for silver jewellery led to experimentation with metal on a large scale and she creates hand beaten art pieces in various metals. Her acrylic, oil pastels and mixed media displays her love for colour and texture. Her work has been exhibited at Hilton Arts Festival, Decorex (Durban and Johannesburg), Nedcor Building Summit, SA Cardiff Art & Decor Show and the New York Art Show. Rheta is exhibiting in various galleries in South Africa and has had commissions locally and overseas.

The Blue Caterpillar Art Gallery is housed on The Butterflies for Africa premises, 37 Willowton Road, Pietermaritzburg. More information from Amanda on 033 387 1356 or email: art@butterflies.co.za
