GERALD BAISE AT KOOP (article first published : 2003-06-5)

Well-known Durban sculptor Gerald Baise will exhibit his work at KOOP on the corner of Bulwer and Ferguson Roads - 30 metres from the NSA.

He commenced sculpture classes with Basil (Buck) Jones over 25 years ago and after several group exhibitions had his first solo exhibition in 1988. This was followed by a two-month stay at the Citè des Arts in Paris (1991) during which time he participated in a group exhibition at the South African Embassy in that city.

In 1991 he shared an exfhibition with Gordon Lowings and in 1992 had his second solo exhibition based on his stay in Paris. In 1997 he exhibited with Basil Jones and Heidi Smallwood.

Gerald works predominantly in wood and his work is based on a passion for shape often borrowing from organic life which acts as a starting point for a personal vision.

The show is entitled Exhibition des Refusés and opens on June 10 at 18h30. More details on 031 202 8091.
