YESTERDAY (article first published : 2006-02-8)

Its back! After the first season in December sold out within days, the Hexagon Theatre in Pietermaritzburg in association with Just So Productions presents a new season of the delightful evening of hit songs from the 60's and 70's.

Directed by Peter Mitchell and Justin Southey, Yesterday is a vibrant and fun-filled musical tribute to the hitmakers of the 60's and 70's. With more than a hint of nostalgia, the cast of five top local singers and musicians take a retro look at the songs that were the backdrop to some of the most memorable and tumultuous times in contemporary history.

The performers include Sandra Styles, Justin Southey (Godspell, West Side Story, Nunsense, S'Wonderful), Ryan Calder (whose latest CD Better Days has been praised by critics and public alike), James Aitchison (lead in Godspell, Just Brel, S'Wonderful and many dramatic roles) and Tammy Bell (Nunsense, West Side Story, Songbirds).

Songs include those made famous by The Beatles, Jim Croce, Elvis, The Turtles, The Animals, The Carpenters, The Beach Boys, Elton John, Carole King, Neil Diamond, Carly Simon, John Denver, Janis Ian - you name them, they sing them!

The show is in the popular Dive at the Hexagon, an intimate cabaret venue with tables and chairs. The format is a picnic evening, where patrons bring a picnic basket and kick back and relive the parties of their youth!

Yesterday runs in the Hexagon Dive (cabaret venue) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, on February 24 at 19h00 for 19h30, February 26 at 18h00 for 18h30 and on March 3 and 4 at 19h00 for 19h30. Tickets R45pp. There is a cash bar so no drinks to be brought in and there is a discount of R5 pp for tables of six or more. On offer is an optional picnic spread from the Hexagon Caterers at R40pp.

Bookings on 033 260 5537 or e-mail hexagon@ukzn.ac.za
