DAN PATLANSKY (article first published : 2005-12-31)

From January 6 to 8, Dan Patlansky will take to the stage at the Point Waterfront to blast off the Dockyard Supper Theatre's New Year.

Still in his 20's, Dan Patlansky has made an indelible mark on the South African music scene as well as an impression internationally. He is certainly no stranger to Durban audiences. This “six-string prodigy” has made the most amazing strides since the age of 14 when he bought his first guitar.

Although he attended music lessons it was BB King who really influenced his playing. In an interview with Jason Curtis in July 2004 he said: “BB King, along with the likes of Albert Collins and Albert King, sparked a passionate flame in me. The classic blues guys were my grounding because their style was not too fast or technical. There's soul in their rhythm and only years later did I realise that it all came out in the scales and from that it all came together.” Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix have also been extremely influential in his music.

If you have never heard Dan Patlansky play then this is an absolute treat. Die-hard Dan Patlan fans - had better be first in the queue.

Tickets R80 with an a la carte menu and cash bar on hand. For bookings or further information contact Karen at the Dockyard on 031 332 1086.
