JOHNNY BE GOOD (article first published : 2005-11-7)

Durban's longest running and ever-popular comedy cabaret group The Gee Jays return to the Heritage Theatre with their entertaining show entitled Johnny be Good.

Entering their 20th year together, Gary McKenzie, John Didlick and Grant Bell will perform their rock and roll show which features a carefully-chosen mix of close harmony 50's swing, and rock and roll favourites. They will be performing with a live band, under the musical direction of Dawn Selby.

The show will feature all the legends from the rock ’n roll era. Chuck Berry, Bill Haley, Elvis, Buddy Holly, The Everly Brothers, The Platters, Bobby Darren, Little Richard and more.

The song line up includes Rock Around The Clock, Shake Rattle & Roll, Summertime Blues, The Great Pretender, Oh Boy, Lucille, Great Balls Of Fire, At The Hop and even songs from the British invasion onto the rock ‘n roll scene, The Young Ones, Twist & Shout, Jumpin’ Jack Flash and Rock ‘n Roll Music.

The show will also take a look at how rock ‘n roll came about and how it influenced some of the greatest musicians of modern times. Expect the usual zany antics and cheeky one-liners in the show as well as a bit of a twist!

Johnny be Good opens on November 15 and runs over the festive season until December 31. Shows Wednesday to Saturday at 19h00 for the meal and 20h30 for the show.

Tickets R150 for the two-course meal and show. Tickets R120 for the Tuesday evening and Sunday lunchtime shows (12h30 for lunch with show at 14h00). There will be two special previews on November 27 and 28 at 19h00 (R120 for meal and show). There is a separate a la carte pudding menu. Booking essential on 031 765 4197.
