CHOICE MINCE (article first published : 2000-05-21)

The top Cape Town-based drag duo, Mince returns by popular demand to the Langoustine Theatre by the Sea for four nights only from June 7 to 10.

Choice Mince, which includes more stylish drag in their elegant crowd-pleaser, is a celebration of female vocalists from around the world. It features Keiron Legacy (Martin) and Lilly Slaptsilli (Clive) - two female impersonators (more commonly known as “drag artists”). This super-slick show was staged in Durban in July '98 and earlier this year in February - both times to capacity houses. Choice Mince, features "the best of" the four previous shows including numbers selected by audiences over the years which celebrate artists like Tina Turner, Alanis Morrisette, Gladys Knight, Whoopi Goldberg, Bette Midler, Eartha Kitt and many more.

Martin (Keiron) is an experienced performer, all lithe body and elegant designer frocks, who started doing drag while doing his national service. He went onto compete in various drag beauty pageants, always carrying home the title. Several years ago, he and a friend entered the best-dressed couple competition at the J&B Met and won hands down and it was only afterwards that the judges realised that the “best-dressed woman” was in fact a man!

Long-legged Clive (Lilly) goes for streetwise designer kitsch and a fine touch of comic timing and has no previous drag experience other than excelling in drama at school. After studying fashion design at the Cape Technikon, Clive realised that he had the talent for producing fashion shows. He still runs a successful fashion-show production-house and owns a top décor shop.
