CONVENT GIRLS (article first published : 2005-09-23)

Well-known popular cabaret stars Lisa Bobbert and Tonya Koenderman are to present their new show, Convent Girls, at Rhumbelow Theatre in Umbilo shortly. The two irrepressible performers have been friends since their school days at Rosebank Convent. Some 25 years later, they figured it was time to do a show together, one which celebrates a friendship that has survived heartbreak and tragedy as well as highs and lows in their careers.

Convent Girls is a light hearted look at their lives; similarities and differences. They lovingly poke fun at each other whilst remaining highly respectful of each other's talent, despite the competitiveness of show business.

With cheeky songs such as Bette Midler's Otto Titsling, or He Had It Coming from Chicago, they combine their unique talents to be a force to be reckoned with. In true sassy style, they belt out favourites such as Mack The Knife, Meadowlands, Pata Pata, New York New York and When You're Good to Mama.

They tease, they insult, they mock, but all is done with a loving affection and bond that has grown unbreakable over 25 years of friendship.

Shows take place on October 14 and 15 at 20h00 and October 16 at 18h30. The venue opens 90 minutes before the show for a picnic dinner.

Tickets R50. Take along food picnic baskets and braais will be available. There is limited secure parking and booking is essential. A cash bar is available (no alcohol may be brought on to the premises). Rhumbelow Theatre is situated in Cunningham Avenue off Bartle Road.
