THOSE WERE THE DAYS (article first published : 2005-07-18)

As hemlines shrunk visibly and free love reigned, the 60s embedded itself in our memories and music. The Barnyard Theatre’s festive season production will be Those Were The Days which pays tribute to a decade where the pace of change in international, social and cultural affairs was quicker than in any other

Aside from a cultural revolution, some the most influential music of our time comes from this diverse decade that ran the gauntlet from sugary pop to acid rock, Woodstock to Vietnam, The Beatles to The Rolling Stones and Richard Nixon to flower power.

Setting the tone for this foot-stomping festive season show is a ten-piece cast featuring hits like Born To Be Wild, Georgia, Respect, Mustang Sally, Let’s Twist Again and Hey Jude. This blast from the past wouldn’t be complete without the music of Tom Jones, Simon & Garfunkel, Neil Diamond and the Beach Boys where medleys give insight into their immense talent.

Those Were The Days runs from October 4 to January 8, 2006. Flower children and would-be hippies – stand by to take a nostalgic trip at The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway!

The Barnyard’s annual ticket increase comes into affect with this show and prices will go up to R90 pp (Buy One Get One Free promotions on Tuesday night and Sunday matinee shows).

There will be no performances on December 25 and January 1, but there will be Buy One Get One Free shows on December 26 and January 2. Special lunch time shows will staged on November 25 as well as on December 2 and 9.
