HERITAGE MONDAY (article first published : 2005-06-28)

A varied line up of exciting one-off projects has been put together by Sue Clarence to fill mostly Monday evenings at the new Heritage Theatre in Hillcrest.

The Monday programme offers as wide a variety as possible to ensure that Highway residents can come along regularly to enjoy a varied offering - from recitals to comedy, readings to music.

The line up for July has been announced. Appropriately, on July 4 (American Independence Day) thereís the Great American Song Book featuring Melanie Roberts, Shelley McLean and Evan Roberts in an evening of everything American from the 30ís to the present: George Gershwin and Judy Garland; Elvis to Aerosmith; Cole Porter to The Carpenters. This inimitable trio will weave their musical magic and deliver an unforgettable evening of song. In their customary piano and voice style they will deliver soaring ballads, jazzy standards and beautiful harmony work. Their repertoire includes songs like Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Fascinating Rhythm, Fly me to the Moon; My Baby Just Cares for Me and Bridge over Troubled Water.

On July 11, Red Hot and Blue takes to the stage featuring the inimitable Karen Van Pletsen.

July 18 is the turn of the gothic comedy horror story, Frank&Stein, which has a season at the Kwasuka Theatre in Greyville during July, to have a one-off performance in Hillcrest.

Finally, on July 25 there is a concert by classically-trained musicians from maestro Christopher Duiganís Music Revival programme.

Tickets R140 include a two-course meal and show ticket with the evenings starting at 19h00 for supper and the show at 20h30. There is a special separate pudding la carte menu. Bookings on 031 765 4197.
