BORN TO RUN (article first published : 2005-04-29)

Itís back to the evergreen 80s and beyond when Born To Run takes to The Barnyard Theatre at Gatewayís stage from May 10 to July 10. The Barnyard Theatre Productions teams up with Ian von Memerty again for the sequel to the hit show Glory Days seen at the venue in 2002.

Once again inspired by the Bruce Springsteen classic song Born to Run, we see the continuing adventures of the loveable nerd Wally who is bored with mundane suburbia, so he gives up his job to become a Hellís Angel biker. Wally has always secretly harboured the desire to be the greatest rock star of all time, Bruce Springsteen, and this time heís got a point to prove.

The audienceís journey with Wally takes them through hits of the 80s and also delves into anthems from more recent decades. Audiences can expect music from the likes of U2, Toto, Lionel Ritchie, Tina Turner and Billy Idol, with hits such asEye Of The Tiger, Private Dancer, Reggae Nights and Iím Too Sexy.

Andrew Webster will again fill the role of Wally and do lead vocals, while powerhouse Ramaine Barreiro will return on female vocals and Granville Michaels will be the other male lead. The six-piece band will be made up of the popular Chris Luke on saxophone, Gavin Knox Grant on trumpet, Josh Thatcher on guitar, Mark Freel on bass, Conrad Schoenraad on keyboards and Alan Lloyd on drums.

The show has been devised by Duck Chowles and will be directed and scripted by Ian von Memerty.

Tickets R85 (Buy One Get One Free on Tuesday nights and Sunday matinees. For bookings and enquiries, phone The Barnyard Theatre on 031 566 3045, e-mail gateway@barnyardtheatre.co.za or visit www.barnyardtheatre.co.za
