THE STAND UP (article first published : 2005-03-20)

Currently at the Catalina, be sure to catch laugh-a-line funnyman Aaron McIlroy in the premier season of his latest stage comedy, The Stand-Up, presented by Macbob Productions at the Catalina Theatre on Wilsonís Wharf in Durban until 10 April. Aching abs and tears of mirth are forecast in this all-new one-man show, co-written and directed by Susan Monteregge, as the inimitable Aaron casts his laser-beam gaze on the whyís, wherefores and where-with-allís that make up the fabric of stage comedy.

One of South Africaís most popular entertainers in this performance genre, with a string of block busters under his belt (The Loser, Mr Personality, My Cousin Brother and, most recently, the multi award-winning Defending the Planet), McIlroy is now set to put the whole comic genre under the microscope. Stand by for some devastating test results as our expert surveys the scene in true chameleon mode, casting his beam over the entire spectrum of comics, from the amateur wannabe to fully-fledged MC, and those big-time Headliners in full strut.

Tickets R65 (group booking discounts available) for performances Tuesdays to Saturdays at 20h00 (Sundays at 18h00) until April 10. Book through Thandeka on 031 305 6889.

The Stand-Up then moves to the new Heritage Theatre in Hillcrest from April 20. For more information on the Heritage Theatre, contact Gary McKenzie on e-mail: encore@iafrica.com
