CELLULITE AND SEQUINS (article first published : 2000-03-22)

Those who remember the days of the Crazy Horse and the Copacabana will also remember that Dianne Chandler was a household name at the time. She also featured in shows such as Evita, Jenny’s Girl and the box-office smash hit We’ll Meet Again. One of South Africa’s most talented and popular entertainers, she now sports a new look with short-cropped blonde hair. But the wide smile is still there and the cheeky humour, generous commitment and showbiz flair just as dazzling.

Dianne came to Durban last year to perform her show Cellulite and Sequins at Crawford La Lucia but the venue was highly inappropriate for the production. However, when she brings the show back to Durban to run from April 5 to 15 at the popular Backstage venue at the Royal Hotel, she will be in a venue exactly suited to her kind of cabaret presentation.

Cellulite and Sequins takes a light hearted, humorous dig at Dianne’s life and career as an entertainer. It features numbers such as don’t Rain on My Parade, New York and Big Spender that allow her to give rein to her considerable vocal power and dramatic ability. And no show with Dianne Chandler would be complete without the inevitable Jerusalem.

The show comes to Durban from seasons in Zimbabwe and Gauteng. Shows are held from Wednesday to Saturday at 19h00 for 19h30 for dinner with the performance commencing at 20h00. Tickets at R120 include a three-course meal in true Royal style and can be booked through the Royal Hotel restaurant reservations on (031) 304-0331.
