ABBA (article first published : 2004-06-23)

Having disbanded more than 21 years ago, Swedish super group ABBA still manages to capture hearts all over the world. There have been a number of productions worldwide based on the music of ABBA: Mamma Mia draws huge crowds in London, Bjorn Again is currently running in Johannesburg and now Durban is set to enjoy Sturt Meyís show, simply titled ABBA.

In keeping with Stuartís philosophy of introducing youngsters to the stage, the members of ABBA will be played by Karen Wood, Nicky Mey, Paul Cassels and John Stengel.

Karen Wood, who plays Agnetha (the blonde one), was last seen in The Cellarís adult pantomime presentation of Sleeping Beauty, She has worked extensively on the cruise ships and recently returned from London.

Nicky Mey, who plays Annafrid, has done a number of supper theatre productions and was most recently seen in The Bee Gees which also played The Dockyard.

The parts of Benny and Bjorn will be played by Paul Cassels and John Stengel respectively. Musical director Bruce Boome leads the regular Dockyard show band.

ABBA takes the form of a present day older, approaching 60, Benny Andersen (played by Stuart Mey himself). He reminisces about the bandís successes in their heydey while the band performs all the ABBA hits.

Tickets R65 (dining is not compulsory). For those who wish to sample The Dockyardís good cuisine, an optional two-course meal (main and dessert) is available at a further R55. Bookings through The Dockyard on 031 332 1086 or Computicket.
