A WARM HAND ON YOUR OPENING ! (article first published : 2004-02-29)

Brookfield, along the Hilton College Road, has recently had its official opening as a restaurant and Bed & Breakfast. To celebrate, A Warm Hand on Your Opening ! will be the first of regular supper theatre evenings at this classy venue.

The show stars Anthony Stonier and Lisa Bobbert who are soon to appear in a re-run of their smash hit Brutal Tunes. The show presents a wry, amusing look at great theatrical disasters that have occurred on opening nights interspersed with well-known musical theatre songs, character songs and show stoppers.

Opening nights in the theatre world are filled with glamour and tension in almost equal doses. The audience dresses up, sips cocktails and watches the spectacle unfold. The cast meanwhile is usually terrified of getting it right, of the critics in the house, of the future of the season.

Disasters inevitable occur backstage and onstage. The audience is more often than not oblivious to these crises, thanks to the consummate skill of the actors frantically working their way around missed cues, wrong lines, music striking up at unfortunate moments, blackouts in the wrong places!!

At the end of the evening, the audience leaves on a high, the cast collapses around the bar to discuss their triumphant victory over all odds. And everyone waits to read the reviews.

Tickets R120 includes a meal and the show. The meal will be a set menu consisting of smoked chicken salad including seasonal fruit, nuts, and steamed vegetables, served with a selection of homemade breads, and followed by Pavlova and coffee. Brookfield is not yet licensed so take own alcoholic drinks. Glasses will be provided.

Performances on March 5 and 6 at 19h00. Bookings on 033 383 0126.
