HANDSOME DEVILS (article first published : 2003-09-17)

Following hot on the heels of the very successful music revue Masters of Rock” which ended its extended run at the Dockyard Theatre this week, is the long awaited musical comedy, Handsome Devils.

Described by Stuart Mey, producer and musical director as being “A sort of Commitments - set on the Bluff,” the show will feature Stuart Mey, Gerald Knott, Glen Turrell, Bruce Boom and Ian Webster with Ian Wells on piano.

Handsome Devils promises to be a hilarious musical comedy, touching on the male menopause and midlife crisis and featuring a six piece band playing rock ‘n roll classic hits from the late 50's and 60's.

The show is loosely scripted around Harry, a disgruntled fifty-something, who is fed up with his nagging overbearing wife. He decides to rekindle the flames of his youth as he puts together, with great hilarity, his Rock and Roll band of 1958 when he and his mates “pulled the chicks”.

Following on the theme of the “old ballies” introduced by Mey during his previous hit music reviews (Santana, Masters of Rock and Legend of Eagles), the music played by this veteran group of musicians highlights the Rock and Roll classics of the 50’s and 60’s.

Handsome Devils opens at the Dockyard on September 18 and will run until November 2. Bookings through the Dockyard on 031 369 9505 or at Computicket.
