MASTERS OF ROCK (article first published : 2003-07-19)

Following hot on the heels of the sensational show, Lady Sings the Blues, the Dockyard Supper Theatre presents Masters Of Rock a pulsating rock show featuring the music of the greatest rock bands ever! Included in the line up are the most well known and popular rock icons, mainly from the 70’s, such as Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Dire Straits, Toto and Queen, to name just a few.

Stuart Mey, who has fast become renowned for presenting the purest and most accurate musical sound in Durban and also co-owner of the newly opened Dockyard Supper Theatre, said; “People have been begging for music from so many of the well known groups from that era. But to put a show together using the music from just one of these bands, is not easy. So we have combined the best and most well known numbers of all of them.”

Mey has brought together a top class, highly-talented group of musicians including Bruce Boom and Gerald Knott on guitar and Ian Webster on drums. The popular Shanthan (last seen in Legend of Eagles) and Derek Anderson will support Stuart on vocals, with the lively Musa Mtetwa (who played in Santana Returns at The Dockyard earlier this year) on keyboard and Shaun Petersen (seen in Lady Sings the Blues) revealing hidden talents on bass, as well as a double drumming treat with Ian Webster in a “Doobie Bros” special.

Masters of Rock runs at the Dockyard Supper Theatre until August 17 and there is no possibility of an extension. Performances Tuesdays to Sundays, with special discounted prices for selected nights. Tickets range from R135 to R170 and include a top quality three course meal. Book at Computicket or at the theatre on 031 332 1086.
