JACK AND THE BIG STALK (article first published : 1999-11-19)

Keeping within the tradition of the Playhouse Cellar’s past three sell-out successes, Sinderella!, Aladdin and Sleeping Beauty, Eric Hutton’s latest show Jack And The Big Stalk! is providing hilarious fun in this adults only (very definitely!) pantomime which is running until early January.

The show features the strong performances of firm favourites of the adult panto series Anthony Stonier, David Hierons, Carol Trench, Greg King and Heather Barclay-Whiffin. Newcomer to the team is Clinton Philander Clover, Jack’s argumentative cow! Clinton alternates with “Sans” Moonsamy as he is also performing in One Voice at the Royal Hotel’s Backstage venue.

Jack and the Big Stalk is written by Anthony Stonier, with additional input from the rest of the cast. Greg King has designed the sets and costumes. Direction is by Peter Court with lighting by Mervyn Goodman. Special lunchtime performances (great for office parties) have been scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays during the month of December. Ticket prices at R100 include a three-course meal (Sunday R75) with Friday’s early show at R35 (no meal). Book at Computicket or (031) 369 9444 for credit card bookings.
