RORY ROOTENBERG’S HIGHLIGHTS (article first published : 2003-01-23)

Rory Rootenberg's latest offering Highlights II is described as an "intoxicating and infectious musical mampoer". Due to appear at Rhumbelow Theatre for four performances, it is a compilation of the most requested items taken from his various shows during the past few years.

Nationally acclaimed for his versatile performance ability, Rory has given over 750 performances, won seven Vita awards and produced three CD's. After having introduced the South African public to his excessive and confusing talents, the man with the voice which soars effortlessly over four octaves from deep baritone to high soprano with equal aplomb now bows to his audiences’ most vocal calls for their favourite songs and sketches to be repeated.

Laughs and gasps abound as Rory takes the audience on a magical musical journey which races from the romantic to ridiculous, covers a myriad of styles from Afrikaans liedjies to Abba, from La Boheme to Lloyd Webber, from Bizet to Brel, and lots in between that Puccini never dreamed of!!

As is to be expected, Rory's most requested show stopper will naturally also be included – Carmen the Opera in Ten Minutes!

Performances take place as follows: January 30 at 18h30 for 19h00 (show at 20h00); January 31 and February 1 at 19h00 for 19h30 (show at 20h30), and February 2 at 17h00 for 17h30 (show at 18h30).

Tickets R40, booking essential. Take food picnic baskets. There is a full cash bar. Braais will be available for those who wish to cook some meat.

Rhumbelow Theatre is situated in Cunningham Avenue off Bartle Road. Limited secure parking is available. Phone or email Roland for bookings on 031 205 7602 (home) or 082 499 8636, or email roland@stansell.za.net
