KAALGESTROOP (article first published : 2002-12-20)

Acclaimed songstress Elzabe Zietsman will perform in Durban for the first time since 1989 when she appears in Kaalgestroop at the BAT Centre’s newly-launched TransAfrica Express tonight (December 20). This will be a supper theatre format with dinner seating at 20h00 and the show at 21h00.

A graduate of the Pretoria Technikon, Elzabe has starred in numerous stage and television productions, as well as leading roles in South African movies. During 1995 she landed a leading role in M-Net's soapie, Egoli. Her cabaret shows continue and during a short run of one of her shows in Windhoek, she was spotted by a musical director urging her to send material to Germany where they were looking for their title role in Evita.

She appeared in the Summer Festival in Ettlingen in 1996. This proved so successful that she was invited back in 1997 to perform the role of Velma in Chicago and during 2000 the narrator in Cabaret. In all these productions she performed in German. She was allocated solo cabaret shows at the festival which proved extremely popular with the German audiences.

She recorded her first CD XIII which was launched in October 1999 and released her second CD, In my bloed/In my blood during 2002.

Kalgestroop is scripted and directed by Deon Opperman, one of South Africa’s top playwrights and directors who also lives life to the fullest. He has succeeded in combining his experience with that of Elzabe and brings to life an amazing journey in Kaalgestroop. Janine Neethling is the music director.

Tickets at R140 include a two-course meal but are limited to 100 so booking is strongly advised through Guy on 083 799 6019 or Andrew on 082 548 1438.
