MICK & TINA (article first published : 2002-09-6)

Top Cape Town based performers Duck Chowles and Ramaine Barreiro team up to salute their musical heroes in a powerful rock tribute spiked with nostalgic and lots of attitude when they perform Mick & Tina at the Barnyard Theatre at Gateway from September 17 to 22.

A lifelong devotion by Duck Chowles to Mick Jagger, and Ramaine Barreiro to Tina Turner is clearly evident in this two-hour high-energy musical show. Chowles, who produced the sell-out Roll Over Beethoven and Glory Days at Barnyard, reportedly “does a mean job” impersonating Mick Jagger performing old favourites such as Honky Tonk Woman, Jumping Jack Flash and Satisfaction just as authentically as the gentle Angie and Ruby Tuesday. Rock ‘n rollers will enjoy Chowles’ Jaggeresque elbow flapping, stage mincing, rubber lipping and microphone twiddling while he belts out his favourite Stones hits.

Ramaine Barreiro, well known throughout South Africa for her sexy and sassy Tina Turner shakedown (as seen in Glory Days) lends her dynamite voice to songs like Proud Mary, Simply the Best, It Takes Two and Let’s Stay Together.

Linking the show together is humorous banter between the two infectious performers. They are backed by musicians Andy Murray on lead guitar and vocals, Jo van der Linden on bass guitar, Judy Brown on keyboards and saxophone and Alan Lloyd on drums.

Tickets R65 from Wednesday to Saturday, with the popular “Buy One Get One Free” promotion on Tuesday night and Sunday lunchtime shows. Bookings and enquiries on 031 566-3045/6 or e-mail: barngate@mweb.co.za or visit www.barnyardtheatre.co.za
