GOING PLACES (article first published : 2002-09-3)

Currently hosted by www.zululand.com, Going Places, is emerging not only as an on-line source of entertainment and lifestyle information but also provides an idea of value-for-money entertainment and lifestyle packages.

With living expenses constantly on the rise, a trip to the theatre or a concert is a regarded as a luxury rather than a necessity. This has placed theatres in jeopardy as well as the possibility of live artistes visiting Durban.

We have come up with an idea which takes Going Places into another dimension to benefit clients as well as the bed-and-breakfast establishments in and around Durban, says Ailsa Windsor of Going Places. We would like to offer a service which would allow clients to book theatre or concert tickets and be provided with overnight bed-and-breakfast accommodation for a price which they could not negotiate for themselves.

As a springboard, we would like to offer a package to Zululanders on August 14 which would include a ticket to Far From the Madding Crowd as well as a bed for the night and breakfast the following day for R250 per person. We realize that accommodation during the week is usually at a premium and have therefore decided on the weekend as B&Bs are usually under-utilised.

For this idea to work, however, Going Places needs bulk bookings and the co-operation of the various establishments.

So far, this idea has attracted much enthusiasm in the north KZN/Zululand region. If successful, it can be expanded to other areas outside Durban where overnight stays in the city to enjoy its theatre life becomes an attractive proposition. Anyone interested should contact Ailsa Windsor on 083 250-2690 or ailswn@mweb.co.za or Thomie Holtzhausen at AccoTravel on thomie@worldonline.co.za
