BELLY LAUGHS (article first published : 2002-08-5)

The inimitable musical comedy team Lisa Bobbert and Aaron McIlroy have done it again. Their latest hit musical comedy Belly Laughs, which played to packed houses at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre recently, will open at the Lango Supper Theatre on August 6 and is a must see show for anyone who has ever even considered having children.

This mad cap musical comedy deals with the trials and tribulations of pregnancy and childbirth. The hosts of the show take the audience on a hilarious musical journey covering subjects such as hormonal changes, ante-natal classes, alternative therapy, birth partners and labour.

Starring Aaron McIlroy, whose hit show The Loser, sold to full houses throughout the country and wife Lisa Bobbert, seen recently in their musical comedy Revenge of The Pink Panties, Belly Laughs deals with the growing pains of herding kids and features their hallmark rock and roll music linked with a belly ache of comic antics performed by the zany couple.

Featuring music such as Tom Jonesí Sex Bomb, the Blues Brothersí Land of 1000 Dances, Islands in the Stream, Baby Come Back and more, the show will also be the stage debut for the well known local radio personality Dr Daphne. Several new characters and a few familiar ones (the irrepressible Bruce and Charmaine) make up the cast of thousands this talented couple introduce to the audience.

With audio visual effects produced by DuMarc Film and Sound Studios, Mike Broderick on lighting and set design and Tim Pullen performing his magic as musical director, the show is a must see for anyone who has ever considered having children and will open at Lango Theatre on August 6 to run until September 15.

Tickets R130 include a three course meal. An additional option is the show only, for R65. Performances Tuesdays to Sundays, starting at 19h00 with the meal, and the show at 20h30. A Sunday lunch-time special will start at 13h00, with a two course meal for R100, and the show at 14h00. Book at Computicket or at the theatre by contacting Lisa on 031 563-7324.
