ALL FOR LOVE (article first published : 2002-08-3)

Popular Gauteng-based singer Charl van Heyningen brings his smash hit musical revue All for Love to Durban from August 14 to 31 at The Royal's popular Backstage supper theatre.

All for Love provides perfect musical entertainment for an evening at the theatre. Praised by critics and public alike, van Heyningen's stylishly-presented show offers full scope for his rare vocal range, strength and individuality.

Directed by Ian von Memerty (Handful of Keys, Cadenza) and Charmaine Weir-Smith (Annie), All for Love is also a showcase for Charl’s impressive falsetto and the timbre of his voice makes for sweet listening, whether he's crooning or belting.

Spiked with Charl's quirky humour, the programme includes warm-blooded Latin favourites such as Volare, La Bamba and Amor, Amor, Amor as well as Barry Manilow standards such as Copacabana. There are also timeless classics like Romanza, made famous by Andrea Bocelli, Time to Say Goodbye, the Toreador's aria from Bizet's Carmen and lush, Mediterranean melodies such as Valencia, Funiculi Funicula and O Sole Mio.

There’s a tribute to Broadway with hits from musicals such as Phantom of the Opera (Music of the Night), My Fair Lady (On the Street Where You Live), Oklahoma (Surrey with the Fringe on Top). Also included are the all-time Bryan Adams/Pavarotti favourite All for Love.

Rounding off the evening’s entertainment is a hilarious medley of Russian folk songs, a light-hearted look at the crooning rock 'n roll classics like Smoke gets in your Eyes and Only You with a Harry Belafonte singalong medley comprising Bananaboat Song, Kingston Town and Matilda.

Tickets R120 include a three-course meal. Booking is open on 031 333-6000. Performances of All for Love are from Wednesdays to Saturdays) with dinner served from 19h00.
