FRINGE BENEFITS (article first published : 1999-09-29)

Ray Cooney and Brian Rix are among the finest exponents in the genre of British farce and they first presented Fringe Benefits in London. The Kloof Arts and Drama Society is to produce a run of this hilarious show this month. The KADS production is directed by Mike Dunleavy, who also plays one of the leading roles. Other characters are played by Martin White, Helen Osborne, Cheryl Wigmore, Sue Smith and Trish Ryan.

Former cast member Sean Byrne, who was playing the plumber, has been offered a job with Boswell Wilkie. A clown by profession, Sean was having a “rest period” while acting for KADS but the lure of the ring was impossible to resist. His part will now be taken by Scott Thomas who, KADS advises, is “a very talented youngster and definitely a name to watch.”

Fringe Benefits runs in the Kloof Town Hall from October 13 to 16 and again from October 21 to 23. Tickets are R45 (includes supper) and a cash bar will be available. Book through Cottonfields in Kloof on 764-0255.
