FEELIN’ GROOVY (article first published : 2002-07-20)

Feelin’ Groovy, the ‘60s and ‘70s hit musical, swings onto the stage at The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway to delight Durban audiences from August 6 to18.

The show features Wolf Man Jack, a DJ of the decades, who along with the other six cast members carries the audience away on a wave of nostalgia with hits from Creedance Clearwater Revival, Abba, Neil Diamond, The Troggs, The Mamas & The Papas, Don McLean and Joe Cocker.

Old favourites included in the music line-up include Thank For The Music, Joy To The World, Baker Street, I Will Survive, Sweet Caroline, So You Win Again, Soul Man, American Pie, With A Little Help From My Friends and many more.

Feelin’ Groovy first appeared on stage at the Randburg Waterfront in 1995 and, due to popular demand, appeared there again in 1996 and has been impressing audiences ever since. In February 1998, Feelin’ Groovy completed an extremely successful sold-out nine month run at the Richard Loring Sound Stage in Midrand, and ran for another ten month season with Feelin’ Groovy Take Two in 2001. From July 1998 to February 1999, due to overwhelming public demand, Feelin’ Groovy ran for six sold-out months at the La Scala Theatre at the Mixer in Melville.

Feelin’ Groovy takes audiences on a nostalgic musical journey back to the time of flower power, peace, love, mirror-balls and disco.

Tickets R65 from Wednesday to Saturday, with the popular “Buy One Get One Free” promotion applicable on the Tuesday night and Sunday lunchtime shows.

Feelin’ Groovy is the first of five shows that will form part of The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway’s Spring Season. The remainder of the Spring Season includes The Great Pretenders (August 20 to September 8), Defending the Cave Woman (September 10 to 15), Mick & Tina (September 17 to 22) and Barry Hilton (September 24 to 29).

For bookings and enquiries, phone The Barnyard Theatre on 031 566-3045/6, e-mail: barngate@mweb.co.za or visit www.barnyardtheatre.co.za
