BUS STOP (article first published : 2002-06-28)

The Cellar at the Playhouse is back and business and the next supper theatre show is a vibrant upbeat musical, guaranteed to please a wide audience.

Written, produced and directed by Stuart Mey, (better known as Larry of the Lounge Lizards), Bus Stop features three talented young singers; new to the supper theatre scene, backed by a star studded four-piece live band.

The singers are Jonathan Didlick, (son of Gee Jay John Didlick), Darren Whittle and the sexy Yvette Barnard. Backing this good-looking trio is a live band with almost a century of experience behind them. On drums is Ian Webster - ex Lincoln, Bite, Pink Champagne, and Strawberry Fields. On guitar is Gerald Knott from Larry and the Lounge Lizards. Bass player is Andy Turrell, who featured in The Guitar that Rocked the World and Legend of Eagles and on keyboards and guitars is Bruce Boome, ex 4 Jacks and a Jill, Copperfield, Larry and the Lounge Lizards and Bad Habit.

Audiences are taken by the bus driver/narrator on a musical tour of Great Britain, ending up in London. On their journey they visit nightspots in various cities to see many of Britain's current big names like Robbie Williams, Sting, Ronan Keating, The Corrs and others.

The "journey" culminates in London where the audience is treated to a "live" broadcast of a radio show which features some of the legends that gave birth to pop music in Britain; artistes like Sandy Shaw, Cliff Richard, The Dave Clark 5, Petula Clark and many more.

Bus Stop runs in the Playhouse Cellar from July 9 to 28. Book at Computicket.
