COWARD AT RHUMBELOW (article first published : 2002-05-17)

Themselves undisputed masters at their own particular crafts, actor/director Garth Anderson and pianist Andrew Warburton will soon be presenting Out In The Midday Sun. This is a brand new version of their decades-old though highly popular musical revue Naughty Noel, The Music, Wit and Humour of The Master Noel Coward.

Persuaded by the management of Rhumbelow, this sparkling duo has unwrapped from its mothballs this wonderful piece of musical homage to perhaps the greatest English theatrical genius of the 20th Century. They have also given it a sparkling new coat of polish by bringing in a talent as yet unexposed to Coward's verbal dynamics and satirical brilliance in the form of sexy Clare Mortimer who was recently seen in The Actor’s Co-Operative’s productions of Macbeth and Othello.

The cast of Out In The Midday Sun delves deep into Noel Coward's repertoire to explore (mostly with tongues firmly in cheeks) his philosophy on sin, sex and sadness, love, life and laughter, friendship, fun and fame, tits, travel and trauma, murder, mayhem and marriage.

The programme includes such glittering Coward gems as Some Day I'll Find You and You Were There. Also in the line-up are The Stately Homes Of England, Don't Put Your Daughter On The Stage Mrs Worthington, A Bar On The Piccolo Marina and the perennial favourite Mad Dogs And Englishmen, from which the ambiguous title of the revue has unashamedly been purloined.

Out In The Midday Sun is true theatrical entertainment offering some fine music and comedy from the history books of the English Theatre. Rhumbelow has gained a reputation for presenting exciting entertainment in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere.

Tickets R60 includes dinner and show (vegetarians to advise requirements). it is best to book immediately to avoid disappointment. Contact Roland for bookings on 031 205-7602 or 082 499-8636 or e-mail roland@stansell.za.net
