IT'S NOT WHERE I START… (article first published : 2002-05-6)

Back in Durban for a two week break, in-between touring the United Kingdom with the musical Chicago in which she plays the role of Velma Kelly, is the irrepressible and glamorous Amra-Faye Wright. She will present a show titled It’s Not Where I Start ….

Supporting her will be Evan Roberts on piano and Andy Cuss on trumpet. The latter is also appearing in Chicago. “After working with a live band for the past six months, I felt could not go back to performing to backing tracks again,” says Amra, “and I am really thrilled to be performing with live musicians of this calibre in Durban again.”

Amra’s last two Durban shows, Rouge Pulp and Drinks on Me played to sell-out houses and critical acclaim. Following the same mood of these productions, It’s Not Where I Start … will be very personal, telling of her experiences in show business and theatre. “In contrast to the other shows, this one will be more "honest" and less frantic and "stagey",” she says, adding that she will include less of the more popular showstoppers and songs that have a more dramatic quality.

Songs will include numbers like Ute Lemper's I'm a Vamp, Paris makes me Horny (Victor Victoria), Bette Midler's Otto Titsling, Natalie Cole's Straighten Up and Fly Right and Maybe This Time from the movie Cabaret.

Performances take place from May 8 to 18 at 19h30 for 20h00 at St. Mary's Church Hall, Windermere Road (next to Bean Bag Bohemia).

Tickets R65 - a cash bar will be available throughout the show. Patrons can book a table at BBB for dinner before or after the show on 031 309-6019. Or order a mezze platter for R35 per head with your tickets and have it served at your table.

More information, bookings and block-booking discounts from Peter or Mark on 031 209-0142.
