UNDER THE COVERS (article first published : 2002-02-23)

Established comedy trio - The Gee Jays – is back at the Langoustine Theatre by the Sea, now to be known as Lango’s Theatre, with a new season of music and comedy.

Under the Covers is a hilarious musical look at the comings-off and goings-on "under the covers" featuring Gee Jays: Grant Bell, John Didlick and Gary McKenzie back on stage with their crazy madcap antics. Adding a little soul is celebrated Durban performer Arnie Field who allows the Gee Jays to extend their repertoire to include some numbers in four-part harmony.

Making a welcome return to the stage will be Julie Solomon who will relate much-maligned misconceptions regarding bedroom antics, whilst the guys attempt to stick to what they do best. musical covers.

Double meanings fly fast in terms of musical covers and sub-sheet carry-ons. Some of the "covers" to be featured include renditions of Yesterday (Boys ll Men); Things We Do For Love (10cc); Unchain my Heart (Joe Cocker); When a Man Loves a Woman (Percy Sledge); Breaking up is Hard to Do (Neil Sedaka); It's All Right (Huey Lewis and the News); Hanky Panky (Madonna) and Good Night Sweetheart (Sha Na Na).

The show is directed by Peter Court, choreographed by Fiona Barnes and produced by Gary McKenzie.

Lango’s Theatre now offers a special R65 show-only package. As always, diners are most welcome - patrons may also wish to avail themselves of the celebrated Langoustine seafood menu or enjoy a Thai meal at the Lan Thai - they can also eat in the theatre restaurant and choose from a special theatre menu.

Under the Covers will be staged at Lango’s Theatre in Durban North from February 26 until April 14. Low price previews from February 26 with tickets at R45. More details from 031-563 7324. Booking is through The Langoustine or through Computicket, credit cards call 011-340 8000.
