WHAT A TIME IT WAS! (article first published : 2001-12-19)

After the success of Those Were The Days this year, the cast of the show have been booked for a five week season at the Royal Hotel’s Backstage in July and August next year.

Entitled What A Time It Was! will feature five of the original cast members - Monica Fairall, Angela Dodds, Fiona Tozer, David Atkinson and Patrick Collyer. Missing from the line-up is William Wallace who will be replaced by Glen Turrell. A stalwart of the music scene in Durban, Glen is well-known to Durban audiences and was most recently seen in The Guitar that Rocked the World and Legend of Eagles.

As in the previous production, the new show will involve tight harmonies and acoustic guitar work.

"Those Were the Days had a distinct Woodstock feel,” says Patrick Collyer who is also the director. “The new show is going to concentrate on the more acoustic Beatles songs - songs like Nowhere Man, Eleanor Rigby, Here, There and Everywhere, Fool on the Hill, When I'm Sixty Four and I'm Only Sleeping, to name but a few. It is great fun playing these songs - I am sure it will be as much fun listening to them. A wonderful trip down memory lane for all involved!"
