GO CRACKERS (article first published : 2001-12-2)

Go Crackers is a delightful programme of family festive fare to run at the Umhlanga Rocks Hotel from December 10 to 20.

Ex-West End singers and dancers Vanessa Skaer and, Darren King together with Wallace Nock, head the cast of Go Crackers which contains familiar songs and carefully-chosen rock classics and ballads all with a gently Christmas theme.

Among the line-up includes numbers by Ricky Martin, Elton John and the Beatles, as well as a host of familiar and some Christmas tunes such as Silent Night, Jingle Bells, Holy Night and Sleigh Ride.

Vanessa has travelled extensively throughout England and Europe performing in such shows as West Side Story, The King and I, Oklahoma! and Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat for major theatre producers abroad. Since moving to Durban, Vanessa has appeared in many supper theatre and cabaret productions throughout KZN. Now working with Darren, she has the opportunity of producing her own shows with someone with a similar style, training and background.

Darren, who also trained in England and worked in repertory theatre and West End productions for a number of years, moved to South Africa seven years ago to open a new business. Now that his business is established, Darren has made time to perform again.

Also in the cast is Wallace Nock who has been active in the music and supper theatre scene for the past ten years and his young daughter Bianca. Also appearing are four experienced dancers: Ingrid Weerheim, Jann Bodeker, Danielle Mann and Priscilla Watson-Doig with Rodney Chapman on live piano and saxophone. Choreography is by Nicola Kennedy.

Tickets R95 (R75 for under 12ís) include the show and a three-course meal. There is a cash bar available. Supper is served from 19h00. Book through 031 561-1034/5 for selected credit card bookings (Master and Visa only).
