ANTHONY HAS MAJOR ACCIDENT (article first published : 2001-10-2)

Well-known Durban performer Anthony Stonier, well-known for his many hilarious performances in the Playhouse Cellarís adult pantomimes and recently seen at the Royal Hotelís Backstage venue in the entertaining Letís Misbehave, suffered a serious fall on board a charter vessel outside Durban harbour on Saturday evening.

He was attending a friendís birthday party and the vessel had just left the harbour mouth when it hit a wave and Anthony was thrown backwards onto the deck. Some 36 nail-biting hours passed before the X-Ray scans taken on Monday morning showed that there was no necessity for the threatened major back surgery to fuse the spine.

However, Anthony will be confined to hospital for a week and in a brace for many weeks to come. Close friends have rallied to stand surety for hospital fees and other costs and his colleagues in the entertainment industry will hold a benefit concert to assist with these expenses later in the month. A special trust account has been opened and contributions will be highly appreciated.

Anthony was due to appear in London Calling at the Rhumbelow theatre over the weekend. Although in much pain, his professional theatre spirit is willing to perform but unfortunately his body cannot move other than to stand straight or lie flat! More details to follow regarding the status of this production as soon as information is confirmed.

Trust account details to follow. More details from artSMart editor on csmart@iafrica.com or Sue Clarence on clarence@icon.co.za
