THE LOSER IS BACK (article first published : 2001-07-19)

Aaron McIlroy's highly popular "motivational speaking" musical comedy show, The Loser is back for a brief season at the Langoustine Theatre by the Sea opening on July 31. The show recently performed at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre to full houses and featured as one of the top ten best sellers on the fringe of the recent Standard Bank National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.

The Loser stars popular zany comedian Aaron McIlroy and takes a slanted view of the new-age quick-fix positive hype of motivational speaking. It features a horde of strange and maniacal individuals introduced in McIlroy's usual wacky style as he places the focus on humour through characterisation. The audience meets Truscott Price, the world-renowned and unconventional motivational speaker, whose offbeat leaps in logic and his unfortunate tragi-comic past are a complete contradiction to his magnetic appeal and logical positivism.

Directed by Sue Monteregge, with music direction by Tim Pullen and lighting design by Mike Broderick, The Loser is a high energy production and features the music of Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Shel Silverstein, Tom Waits, Lou Vega and a range of Elvis tunes.

Book at Computicket or the Langoustine on (031) 563-7324.
