LICENCE TO MINCE (article first published : 2001-07-17)

Cape Town's dynamic drag duo Mince returns to the Langoustine Theatre by the Sea for four shows only from July 25 to 28, offering Durban audiences a last chance to see their hot funky new show Licence to Mince. The production was inspired by the most recent version of the movie Charlie's Angels as well as an assortment of vintage James Bonds.

The overall feel is sexy and stylish, with a slick and sophisticated attitude. This production uses high-tech video clips and there is a new character in the repertoire - Suzy the Sexy Sorcerer. Apparently a really ugly girl who does appallingly bad magic tricks, Suzy is 100% live, real and authentic - no lip-syncing for her!

Some of the numbers in the new show include Blind Date by Barbra Streisand; two numbers by soulful seductress Eartha Kitt; Anastacia with I'm Outta Love and a Rocky Horror Picture Show number. Licence to Mince opens with a funky version of ABBA's Dancing Queen and the evening ends with the show-stealer Back Street Boys duet. New numbers include Silencer which has a distinct Bond Girl feel and Bob Fossie's version of Big Spender - direct from the current Broadway musical Fossie.

Licence to Mince is a celebration of female vocalists from around the world. It features well-heeled dames of deception, Keiron Legacy (Martin) and Lilly Slaptsilli (Clive) - two female impersonators (drag artists). Their super-slick shows play to capacity houses on every return visit to Durban.

Early booking is advised through Computicket or at the Lango on (031) 563-7324. Tickets at R120 include a quality three-course meal.
