DOWN TO EARTHA (article first published : 2001-02-4)

Actor and film director Orson Welles once described Eartha Kitt as “the most exciting woman alive”.

Following a year-long contract in the United Arab Emirates, Anthony Stonier makes a welcome return to the Durban stage in a tribute to the legendary singer. He will be accompanied by Gauteng jazz pianist Wayne Purchase, who he met while working in Abu Dhabi.

Presented by Lipton Ice Tea and directed by Greg King, Down to Eartha is a revue featuring some of the singer’s greatest songs such as Old Fashioned Girl, C’est si Bon, All by Myself, Smoke Gets in your Eyes, An Englishman Needs Time and Where is my Man. The show opens on February 6 in the Playhouse Sanlam Loft which will be transformed into a Parisienne nightclub.
