THRILLER (article first published : 2000-11-9)

Thriller, a new musical comedy of “murder, mystery and suspen-ders” opens at the popular Langoustine Theatre By The Sea on November 7. Presented by Stampeding Buffalo Productions in association with East Coast Radio, the show will be the Langoustine’s festive season production. It is staged by the same team that produced the smash hit Mercury Rising which played the Langoustine last year.

Thriller features an all-star cast headed by award-winning Duncan Royce who is also the show’s writer and co-director. Also appearing will be Belinda Henwood (Popcorn) and Peter Gardner War Cry) as the narrator. The show will see the introduction to Durban audiences of three of South Africa's brightest new musical talents: energetic Jason Packett, honey-voiced Dalene Turner, and larger-than-life Audrey Tu.

An extravagant array of sets and costumes have been co-ordinated by the multi-talented and award-winning Greg King (director of Popcorn) and the hilarious horror story is directed by award-winning actress Belinda Harward. Musical direction and sound design is provided by Philipp Maier of the Sound Factory.

The show will feature music from such hit Broadway shows as Phantom of the Opera, Little Shop of Horrors, Kiss of The Spiderwoman, Jekyll and Hyde, Chicago and the ultimate party experience The Rocky Horror Show. Well known songs include Phantom of the Opera, Michael Jackson's Thriller, Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell, Ghostbusters, The Cellblock Tango, not forgetting Sweet Transvestite and Timewarp.

Tickets R100 (include three-course meal) for shows Wednesday to Saturday, dinner from 19h00 with the show at 20h30. Tickets R79 on Tuesdays and Sundays (includes two-course meal). Early booking is advised through Computicket or at the Langoustine. More details on (031) 563-7324. Credit card booking on (031) 304-2753. Save booking costs via http://www.computicket.com.
