CHEZ MOULIN ROUGE (article first published : 2008-06-23)

Centrefold – featuring Jane Candow, Paul Candow, Belinda Dolphin and Cheryl Wigmore – is to appear at the Hillcrest Club on June 24.

“Outside it may be raining, but in here it’s entertaining” The Moulin Rouge is one of France’s oldest and most famous (or perhaps infamous) nightclubs. Famous for its Red Windmill and infamous for giving birth to the erotic Can Can, which caught the imagination of many a movie maker. Frequented by misfits and Bohemians such as the artist Toulouse Lautrec and the very rich who enjoyed “slumming it” with the very poor.

Centrefold invite audiences to follow the history of the Moulin Rouge from its early days as a Bordello to current day where it has achieved legitimacy as a nightclub hosting international artists like Frank Sinatra and Edith Piaf.

Centrefold have prepared an evening of pure Cabaret, including a few songs from the latest movie - Lady Marmalade, Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend, Your Song and Rhythm of the Night. Other songs include All That Jazz, Fever, Patricia the Stripper, Black Magic Woman and loads more.

Centrefold will present Chez Moulin Rouge at 18h30 for 19h00 on June 24 at the Hillcrest Club. Tickets R65 for the show and R65 for Buffet Dinner. Bookings are essential through Jane on 031 765 1516. A cash bar is available and the club now has air conditioning.
