RHYTHM OF THE NIGHT (article first published : 2008-04-2)

Feel the rhythm and the heat, and warm up those winter blues, as The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway takes audiences on a journey with the sultry sounds of Latin America with Rhythm of the Night. The show comes to life from June 10 when it offers a month-long wild tour through the music of Latino legends.

Rhythm of the Night is a show that will put audiences in the groove and get them rocking to the sounds of Santana, Ricky Martin, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, The Gypsy Kings, Ritchie Valens and many more. It moves from the Copacabana “music and passion is always the fashion”, to dancing the Conga with Gloria Estefan to the fun-inspired Macarena and The Ketchup Song. The show also promises the powerhouse sounds of Santana’s Well Alright, Smooth and She’s Not There.

The show is clearly all about rhythm and features some of the most impressive dance routines on any Barnyard Theatre stage. Comprising a powerful and energetic 10-member cast, the show portrays the sexiness of Ricky Martin with hits like Living La Vida Loco and Shake your Bon Bon as well as the raunchiness of Shakira with Hips don’t lie and Objection.

Rhythm of the Night runs from June 10 to July 13. Tickets R100 pp from Wednesday to Saturday (R65 discounted specials on Tuesday nights and Sunday matinees) and the Super Saver show at R40 on June 28.

Bookings and enquiries through The Barnyard Theatre on 031 566 3045, e-mail gateway@barnyardtheatres.co.za or visit www.barnyardtheatres.co.za for more information.
