SINATRA, BENNETT & FRIENDS (article first published : 2008-03-9)

After a successful run of the tribute to Cliff Richard, which attracted a more mature audience, the next offering from Musgrave’s Dockyard Theatre is a celebration of the music of the greatest “lounge singers” of all time. The show will feature the songs made famous by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jnr.

After the absence from performing of over a year, Dockyard owner and producer, Stuart Mey will host and perform in the show. Together with special guest singers Gino Veroni and Idols finalist Dominic Momberg, Stuart Mey will handle most of the Sinatra classics.

In a move to make the show more accessible to a more mature audience, the Dockyard has introduced Saturday and Sunday lunch-time matinees as well as their usual show times.

Titled Sinatra, Bennett & Friends, the show offers audiences a special treat over the Easter Weekend, when the intimate lounge quartet will be augmented by an eight-piece brass ensemble to form a 12 piece ‘big band’. This forms part of The Dockyard Easter Swing Festival.

Sinatra, Bennett & Friends kicks off on March 13 to runs from Wednesdays to Sundays up to and including the Easter weekend of March 21 to 24. It is a short run and bookings for the Easter Weekend Big Band version of the show are limited.

Tickets R180 pp (usual two-course meal and show, featuring the quartet) from March 13 to 19. From March 20 to 24 over the Easter Weekend when the show features the 12-piece big band, tickets will be R220 pp (including meal and show). Early booking is advised through Melissa, Karen or Stuart on 031 201 9147.
