IN THE SUMMERTIME (article first published : 2008-02-22)

It’s time to sizzle as the Heritage Theatre turns up the heat with In The Summertime, a red-hot musical featuring all-time favourite “summer songs”. Join the festive party where you can samba and slide to some of the world’s hottest hip-swaying sounds from Gloria Estefan, Shakira and the Beach Boys to the sultry Latin grooves of the Gypsy Kings, Ricky Martin and Carlos Santana.

Heritage Theatre’s forthcoming show includes hits such as Living La Vida Loca, Coco Mo’s, Quando Quando, Bailomos, Have You Really Ever Loved a Woman and The Heat Is On to Summer Lovin', Montego Bay, Going to Barbados and Blame It on the Boogie.

The show is fronted by Jonothan Didlick Jnr alongside Clare McIlroy (sister to the famous Aaron McIlroy) and Yvette Barnard, both of whom have starred in various shows around the country and perform together on the Heritage stage for the first time.

In a welcome return to the stage, South African music legend Dave Birch takes the guitar spotlight with a stirring tribute to Carlos Santana and The Gypsy Kings. Musical direction is by Dawn Selby (keyboards), with Malli Sewell on drums and Mark Freel on bass.

In The Summertime runs from February 26 to March 31. Tickets are R185 Wednesday to Saturday evenings (R160 Tuesday evenings and Sunday lunch) for a delicious two-course meal and show. Show times are Tuesday to Saturday at 19h00 (meal) for 20h30 (show) and Sunday lunchtime specials at 12h30 (lunch) for 14h00 (show).

Bookings on 031 765 4197.
