MOTOWN FOR EVER! (article first published : 2007-12-23)

Motown for Ever! is the story of Tyrone King and his take on the Motown era of history and its impact on a group of “ouens” from Wentworth. The production comes to the Catalina Theatre in Wilson’s Wharf at the tail end of the festive season opening in the wharfside theatre on January 15.

Writer / director / actor Hamish Kyd has assembled a sparkly cast of vibrant and talented performers including Grant Jacobs who was recently seen in Sasol Fever along with Actors Co-Op regular Rory Booth. Also appearing is Anthony Joseph. The women in the cast are Portia Zungu, Cindy Ngidi and Praline Ross. Hamish Kyd plays the narrator Tyrone King who tells the story from his prison cell where he is serving time - allegedly for murdering his wife.

The Motown hits are interspersed with a poignant personal story. Hamish Kyd created the original Motown Story with the late Mervyn Goodman in the Playhouse Cellar. His idea has been updated and revisited and involves a new storyline and exciting new cast.

Motown for Ever! runs from January 15 until February 17 and is suitable for the whole family. Shows Tuesday to Saturday at 20h00 (Sundays at 20h00). Performances on Tuesdays and Sundays offer two-for-the-price-of-one tickets, subject to availability.

For more information or to book, contact the Catalina Theatre on 031 305 6889.
