LIBEROCCO (article first published : 2007-12-23)

Popular pianist Rocco de Villiers is to pay tribute to the most flamboyant entertainer ever, the legendary Liberace.

Just before his death 20, years ago on February 4 in 1987, Liberace stated that he wanted to be remembered for three things: his shows, music and costumes.

See and hear the whole thing: the firs, the rings, the candelabra, the thousands of notes, the witty lines, the beautiful tunes and the band. The show is Las Vegas, but also Africa. The show is Liberace, but also Liberocco.

Music includes the Warsaw Concerto, Rhapsody in Blue, Jealousy Tango, Moonlight Sonata, Chopsticks, Tango (from Scent of a Woman), Donít cry for me Argentina and many more diamond-draped tunes! Some original pieces written by Rocco will also appear on the show. Roccoís CDís, cocktails books, aprons and t-shirts will be available at the door.

With direction by Tobie Cronje and musical arrangements by Rocco de Villiers, costumes are by Simon Rademan and photography by Robert Hamblin.

Liberocco runs at Rhumbelow Theatre on January 25 and 26 at 20h00 and on January 27 at 18h30. The venue opens 90 minutes before show for picnic dinner.

Tickets R70. Take along food picnic baskets and braais will be available. There is limited secure parking and booking is essential. A cash bar is available (no alcohol may be brought on to the premises). Rhumbelow Theatre is situated in Cunningham Avenue off Bartle Road. To book contact Roland on 031 205 7602 (h) or 082 499 8636, email roland@stansell.za.net or visit www.rhumbelow.za.net
