SUPASTAGE (article first published : 2007-09-20)

During the past seven years Supastage, one of the leading arts and entertainment publications in South Africa, made use of the Computicket outlets as a means of distribution every month. Now Supastage will be reaching a new, bigger and broader market due to the fact that it will be distributed through Primedia to homes in various suburbs of Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town.

Added distribution will still be done at the leading theatres, Look & Listen stores, casinos and other entertainment venues. Additional copies are distributed at the major arts festivals in the country. The distribution figure is sure to increase within the next months, at no extra cost to Supastage’s clients.

The Supastage website, www.supastage.co.za, is up and running and ensures even greater exposure of current and forthcoming events.

Supastage was founded in 2000 and is a publication which promotes arts, entertainment and all other genres of leisure, as well as the artists in South Africa. It is a monthly tabloid-sized newspaper, printed in full colour on high-grade paper and distributed free of charge to fans of arts and entertainment which include music lovers, musicians and club-, theatre-, cinema- and concertgoers.

In a novel system, advertisers in the publication also receive a number of copies to distribute to potential customers, thus targeting exactly the people to whom they want to market their products or services. However, Supastage goes much further than offering its clients the opportunity to advertise. Clients get free editorial space in addition to the advertisement placed. A monthly entertainment guide is also included in Supastage. SA advertisers’ shows are incorporated into the guide free of charge.

By distributing in this manner, a niche market is reached directly without targeting a particular age or financial group. Supastage is a “good news” newspaper – no scandals, no negative criticism. It is there to promote the arts, entertainment venues, artists and their work as well as to give the public a guideline as to where to go or what to buy.
