ACOUSTIC MOODS (article first published : 2007-08-14)

As a contrast to the currently running hard edge rock show of Masters of Rock – Vol. 3, Stuart Mey and the award winning Dockyard Show Band will present Acoustic Moods featuring the music of Crosby, Stills & Nash and ‘Simon & Garfunkel and “friends”.

The show takes the form of a laid-back soirée. Over and above the artists already mentioned, IT will feature the music of Simply Red, Paul McCartney, José Feliciano, Peter Sarsdedt, Don Mclean, John Mayer, Rod Stewart, James Taylor and others.

“The mood will take music lovers back to the days of flower power and love, Woodstock and those parties we used to go to in the 60’s and 70’s when we’d all sit in the dark on Persian rugs and cushions, singing along to the accompaniment of an acoustic guitar,” explains Dockyard owner, Stuart Mey. “Acoustic Moods will transport you to those halcyon days of sunglasses at night, cheap wine and caftans. To show that this era is still alive and well in the hearts of many, the music of contemporary artists like Simply Red, John Mayer, Extreme and Jack Johnson is included in the show.

Acoustic Moods sees the welcome return of keyboard whiz Musa Mtetwa, a regular at The Dockyard who has been on a six-month sabbatical. Patrons will also get to enjoy the incredible skills of young guitar genius Chris Brink, this time showing his wizardry on acoustic guitars. Musical Director Bruce Boome has recreated those unmistakable harmonies of Crosby, Stills & Nash and Simon & Garfunkel so accurately that the cast’s rendition of Suite: Judy Blue Eyes will make patrons feel that they are actually at Woodstock - which is where I first heard the song.”

Come as a Commune Promotion! During the first week of Acoustic Moods starting on the August 22 patrons are invited to come as a ‘commune’ of hippies as per the 1960’s. Groups of 10 or more who arrive dressed as hippies will be treated to some free bottles of wine (two bottles per 10 adults). Be sure to make your booking under the ‘Come as a Commune’ Promotion.

Show opens on August 22 and will run until October 14. Prices R170 for a two-course meal (R190 per person for a three-course meal) and the show (non-dining R100 per person but seating preference is given to diners). A special is run on Sundays – R120 per person for a Sunday Roast Dinner (vegetarian options available) and the show.
