BEHIND THE MASK (article first published : 2007-07-20)

After a sell-out season early in the year, Rory Rootenberg returns to Durban to present Behind the Mask, his unforgettable evening of love and pathos, song and surprise. From Andrew Lloyd Webber to Afrikaans liedjies, from Man of la Mancha to “man of la madness”, this highly talented singer promises a musical journey of beauty and warmth … as well as a bit of the irreverence that audiences have come to associate with Rory!

Rory will be remembered by Durban audiences for his highly successful Cadenza and Cadenza X-trav which he toured nationally in 1999 and 2000. He returns to Durban to perform at Rhumbelow Theatre accompanied on the piano by his long-time KZN pianist Anne Duthie. (A CD of the show will be available at the performances.)

Behind the Mask is scripted and directed by Michelle Simpson with Ian von Memerty as Artistic Consultant.

Shows take place on August 17 and 18 at 20h00 and on August 19 at 14h00 and 18h30. The venue opens 90 minutes before show for picnic dinner. Tickets R80. Take along food picnic baskets and braais will be available. There is limited secure parking and booking is essential. A cash bar is available (no alcohol may be brought on to the premises). Rhumbelow Theatre is situated in Cunningham Avenue off Bartle Road.

To book contact Roland on 031 205 7602 (h) or 082 499 8636, email roland@stansell.za.net or visit www.rhumbelow.za.net
